Frog Habitat

the old pond:
a frog jumps in the sound of water

– BASHO

Doing this series of paintings of various ponds in the Blue Mountains, I became aware that each pond had different sounds at different times.  I was very aware of them even though I couldn’t see them.  In my mind,  this series has a sound track.

Two of these were shown as part of a group exhibition at the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre in Blackheath which is run by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service located at the entry to Grose Valley. Flora and Fauna ran from January through to late March 2021.

Through the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute I have become involved in their citizen scientist program.  The University of Newcastle has recently introduced frog monitoring devices called audio moths, installed by citizen scientists, which will give us a better picture of the health of our ecosystem.
